21 December, 2020

Earlier today,  Benefacts secured a 12-month extension to its funding agreement with the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform. This means that our free, publicly accessible databases on the nonprofit sector will continue to be available in 2021, augmented – thanks to philanthropic funding – by information services and analysis reports.

Our thanks are due to Minister Michael McGrath TD and his officials for this extension, and to everyone who advocated for it – in particular leaders in the nonprofit and philanthropy sectors.

The purpose of the funding is to provide for Benefacts’ stakeholders in Government to engage in discussions about the future direction of this unique Irish Open Data project, starting early in the new year. We hope the nonprofit sector and other users of our data will also be involved in considering how best to ensure the continued availability of free, publicly accessible data, information and analysis on Ireland’s community of 35,000 civil society organisations into the future

To everyone working in the sector, and all those we have worked with or served in this extraordinary year, we wish a safe and restful Christmas.
